The Walmart Workers' Union
or, to avoid trademark/copyright issues:
The Mallmart Workers' Union
(with apologies/thanks to Barbara Ehrenreich who used that alternate name for "wallyworld")

and yet another variation on a previous name:
The Dawkins Star Cult

They May Already Be In Use, But..... [22 Nov 2011|09:29am]

Being in bands myself over the years, finding a good band name was always a difficult task. It always seemed that all the good names were taken:

Dinosaur Jr.
Murder Junkies (one of GG Allin's many bands)
The Staggering Drunks (local band. If you can find them online, check em out)
Thunderfuck (one of the names Metallica toyed with in the early days)
Bunchofuckingoofs (a personal favorite, and a great punk band as well)
Slayer (Need I say more?)

After much deliberation, my band finally decided on Crooked Veins. It's named after a novel "Crooked Little Vein" by Warren Ellis. I'm pretty happy with it.

Huzzah! Band Names! [16 Nov 2011|03:39pm]

Oemgi - pronounced 'oh em gee'
French Scene Breakdown - Technical Theatre term. I always have this image in my head of a French scene girl having a meltdown whenever I hear it.
The Brightest Crayon In The Toolbox - inspired by one of the many ditzy things to come out of my younger sister's mouth
No Garden Police - misheard lyric from Refuse/Resist by Sepultura
Catholic Radio Bear - misheard lyric from Rock The Casbah by The Clash
Ogre At The Temple - another misheard lyric from Rock The Casbah
Potato Wave - misheard lyric from Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam
Fiddle Butterfly - what my phone tried autocorrecting Gisele Bundchen to
Going To War With My Family - another autocorrect. I was texting my friend that I was going to eat with my family, and ended up with that instead.
A Dell 21 CD - another one inspired by my sister. We were looking for Adele's 21 album for our grandma and she asked, "Why does Granny need a CD for her computer?"

Good band names from A to Z (actually just from C to S) [04 Sep 2011|09:09pm]

C Plus Pus - pun on C++

Pi Pro
Pi Bro - I was moving my glossary of Matt1993isms from my LJ profile to a sticky post so I could put different sections under separate LJ-cuts to make navigation easier. One of the LJ-cuts is for entries between "Pi" and "Pro" alphabetically, and at first I misspelled the LJ-cut text as "Pi-Bro".

Autism intervention inspires band names too [27 Aug 2011|11:11pm]

[ mood | sad ]

I was rereading the notes from my autism intervention from back when I was 2-4 years old, and saw a list of words I was being taught. Some pairs of consecutive words on the list would make good band names:

Cookie Owl
Flower House
Telephone Vacuum
Fork Bear
Helicopter Cake
Tricycle Cereal
Deer Thermometer
(or Dear Thermometer)
Hamburger Snake
Knife Pajamas
Corn Boot
Tomato Train
Hippo Glue
Turtle Shorts
Crayon Tree
Motorcycle Backpack
Zebra Boot
(yes, "boot" was on the list twice for some reason)
Jack o' Lantern Bacon (or just Jack o' Bacon)

And 3 bonus unrelated band names:

Goats & Recordings - a tutorial video for a Livescribe smartpen said something about notes and recordings, but in a way that it almost sounded like "goats and recordings"
Unimaginable Plastic - misreading of a label on something I don't remember (I'm wanting to think it was a chess set? I'm pretty sure it was some sort of board game, anyway) that actually said "unbreakable plastic"
Flying Sardines - during a game of Capture the Flag, someone yelled something that I didn't get to hear very clearly because both of us were running in opposite directions, but it sounded vaguely like this

Some more... [16 Aug 2011|12:42am]

[ mood | depressed ]

Sanity Chickens - From misreading "sanity checkers" in one of my LJ friends' entries. Of course, for a band name, Insanity Chickens or Insane Chickens would probably be better. Or maybe Saintly Chickens.

The Cursed Pizza - Scooby-Doo reference

Grilled Pencils - from what I had changed the subject line of this Writer's Block answer from a while ago to

Lactose-Intolerant Staplers - I was randomly thinking about that subject line and thought up other things I could have used, and this was one of them

Anonymous Noise
Ominous Anonymous - at Wal-Mart, pathvain_aelien was trying to say that our cart was making an ominous noise, but ended up saying "an onimous noise", which I heard as "anonymous noise".

IntegerParty - from a typo while I was programming; I meant to type "IntegerPart"

I was trying to think of a way to describe the packaging for this, which has a larger section of yogurt and a smaller section of honey, and came up with: Little Honey Sidecar.

Closed captioning brought to you in part by Homsar [12 May 2011|09:19pm]

Inspired by two weird closed captions that pathvain_aelien told me about:

Babies Fried Fried Crap Hugs

Some more [09 May 2011|08:50pm]

As you've probably seen, I tend to forget my band name ideas if I go for awhile without posting any, but here are a few that I remember:

Scream at the Barbershop - a friend of mine told me about a barbershop that had the movie Scream playing for some reason

Barenaked Crayons - inspired by peeling the labels off of crayons

The DOS Turtles - inspired by The Complete Idiot's Guide to DOS, which says that using DOS Shell won't make you a "DOS Turtle"

EDIT: I just thought of another band name!

`1234567890-=qwertyuiop[]asdfghjkl;'zxcvbnm,./\~!@#$%^&*()_+QWERTYUIOP{}ASDFGHJKL:"ZXCVBNM<>?| - The most common thing I typed in WordPad when I was younger, and now also one of the least pronounceable ideas for a band name! Variants for different keyboard layouts would also work, of course :)

EDOT: I thought of yet another:

Tool 8 - pun on "too late"
